A North Shore Electrician to upgrade your Electrical Wiring
If your home or building is more than 50 years old, you should have the electrical wiring inspected by a licensed and certified electrician. We can inspect the insulation on the wires to ensure it isn’t dried out or deteriorated and the service panel to ensure safety. Older properties may have wiring that is not up to current code requirements and in some cases, the wiring was grandfathered in. However, if you suspect a problem or plan on gutting and renovating, you may need to upgrade the wiring.
Common problems with electrical wiring include:
- Lights dimming or flickering – This is often caused by frayed wiring where the electrical lines are entering the home. Frayed wires can arc, causing a fire.
- Not enough outlets – If you are using too many extension cords, the load can become heavy and start a fire. You may need more outlets.
- Aluminum wiring – This type of wiring was used in homes built in the 1960s and 1970s, and poses a corrosion risk.
- No ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) – Newer homes have GFCIs installed in the kitchen, bathroom, basement, and garage outlets to prevent electrocution.
McMahon Electric LLC has more than 20 years of experience providing electrical repair and installation. New construction wiring will be installed according to the current requirements of the National Electrical Code. Older wiring may need to be replaced to meet the code, if required.
